Kiran Maharaj is a Caribbean business leader and media entrepreneur. She is Past President of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce (2023-2025), where she founded the Orange Economy and Food Security Committees, and the Trade and Business Development Alliance to deepen collaboration on trade, investment, and private‑sector growth internationally. She is President and CoFounder of the non-profit Media Institute of the Caribbean headquartered in Jamaica and also Caribbean Investigative Journalism Network (cijn.org). Her career in media began as a Freelance Journalist and led her to become a Freelance Correspondent for CNN World Report (2000 to 2002). A former President of the Trinidad and Tobago Publishers and Broadcasters Association, she has long championed responsible regulation, media freedom, and sustainable business models in the communications sector. Her educational background includes degrees and certifications from University of the West Indies St. Augustine, Heriot Watt University, New York University, Harvard Business School and Oxford University. In 2018 the U.S. Department of State and US Embassy Trinidad & Tobago recognised her resilience and public‑spirited leadership with its prestigious Woman of Courage Award. As Managing Director of Caribbean Lifestyle Communications, she oversees a successful group of radio and production companies, including Heartbeat Radio 104.1FM, the world’s first radio station for women. Her most recent endeavour is MIC Create – an entity focused on supporting Caribbean businesses tell their stories via strategic communications and content production.
